MultiVersus is back, and along with it, a heap of lingo that will need a dictionary and a frantic internet search to translate - but fortunately you’re in luck, as we’ve already done that for you.

There are terms such as Rift Cauldron, Nodes and Gleamium, but the most unique of all is the use of "toast". Yes, you read that right.

But as you can imagine, you won’t be sticking a slice of sourdough under the grill as Batman, or popping some rye bread in a toaster as The Iron Giant, and so what is its relevance in a fighting game?

Read on to find out exactly what Toast is in MultiVersus.

What is toast in MultiVersus?

In MultiVersus, toast is a form of currency that can be earned when another player "toasts" you after a match.

It is a quite literal riff on the act of toasting someone to show appreciation or praise in the real world.

Toast is also earned by players who log in to the game’s servers on a daily basis, with five being dished out each day.

What does toast do in MultiVersus?

Toast has no actual gameplay benefits, but it isn’t entirely pointless. If you are toasted by another player (or instead toast them), you will be rewarded with Fighter Currency which can be used to buy new characters.

In the beta period of the game, players were given 25 gold coins, however this system has now been scrapped.

How to toast another player in MultiVersus

Early on in MultiVersus, you might see an objective that you can only tick off by toasting another player. Basically, you need to give at least one player a 'toast' after a game, which is very easy to do.

After you've finished a full best-of-three battle against other players, you'll be taken to a screen where it shows you who won, alongside all the avatars of the other players involved. This is your opportunity to send some toast!

To toast another player in MultiVersus, all you need to do is hover the cursor over the player you'd like to praise (on the aforementioned post-match screen) and you should see an option to 'Give Toast' up near the top of the screen.

As the video below shows, all you need to do is click that 'Give Toast' prompt, and the player of your choice will be sent some toast. Yum!
